Diet Coke and Mentos Rocket

Video description:
This experiment uses the energy created from the reaction between mentos and soda to launch a bottle into the air. The reaction is thought to be produced by the release of carbon dioxide from the soda due to the nucleation sites on the surface of the mentos. Here, we used three mentos wrapped in a piece of paper (to slow the reaction long enough to put the cap on tightly) then we vigorously shook the bottle and slammed it to the ground, cap first (notice the impact point in the slow motion portion).
