The North Atlantic Treaty Organization, allies the United States, Canada, Iceland, Norway, Britain, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Greece, Turkey, Luxembourg, Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic.Besides the United States and Canada, 11 other NATO countries are contributing military forces to the mission in Yugoslavia: Britain, France, Germany, Denmark, Belgium, Norway, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Turkey.
Why does NATO care? In part because the problems in Yugoslavia could spill over and affect neighboring countries and potentially spread to the rest of Europe.
The supreme commander of NATO, U.S. Gen. Wesley Clark has said that the military campaign "will be just as long and difficult as President Milosevic (Yugoslavia leader) wants it to be."
