F-35 Lightning II Flight Testing as of May 4, 2007

Highlights of portions of 19 test flights which began in December 2006. The white paint on the left side of the jet is to provide information on the pattern of fuel dumping, a part of the ongoing testing objectives. As one of two 5th generation fighters in the world (the other is the Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor), the F-35 features all-aspect advanced stealth, supersonic speed and high maneuverability along with information fusion, enhanced situational awareness and long range on internal fuel. Very Low Observability -- stealth -- will allow the F-35 pilot to see without being seen, profoundly improving survivability even in high-threat environments, while enabling mission success. We expect to deliver of 4000 F-35s over the next 30+ years.
