You become a paid mercenary with middle-class wages IF you are willing to die on cue for a corporate war of convenience. This is immoral and should not be tolerated: http://www.combatreform2.com/usarmyethos.htm The young man who lost his mother has made a wise choice in joining the U.S. Army because he will find an open door to both not only college but a career as a pilot in the Warrant Officer program--unlike the other services that only have snobby commissioned officers able to fly. The tragedy is that the MICC-TT has betrayed him because it dragged its feet milking the RAH-66 Comanche stealth helicopter program along as a research toy and it was cancelled. Our young man will have to fly in flimsy, slow, loud, Bell LongJetRangers in absurd dark Army green in blue skies if he wants to be an aeroscout. He should be flying in a sky gray STOL fixed-wing observation/attack aircraft like the U.S. Army used to operate before wimping out to USAF racketeering turf pressure. http://www.geocities.com/usarmyaviationdigest/grasshoppersmustreturn.htm Another tragedy is that the AVVFF needs to be a part of a larger national service program where EVERY American regardless of social class--must serve 2 years in a police, hospital, forestry or military corps so we can get an injection of ADULTS who only want to serve our nation into our ranks--not line their pockets with money or their heads swelled with ego. 2 years of national service will put middle class wages in our young's pockets and get them away from the 10 mile radius of their neighborhood and see there's more to life than living for peer approval and working to consume. Such service would put paid to the older generation constantly deriding the youngsters they haven't paid any dues. Other nations do this to create THINKING loyalty to their country, its real nation-building. Otherwise if we keep out-sourcing national defense to only weak ego and economic AVVFF folk, we will not be able to stop going to needless wars whenever a Gulf of Tonkin or S11 is conjured up by the corrupt power elites. The COMMON defense must be done by the COMMON people. Not willing victims.
