Airborne 1 Hoover Dam LiDAR Fly-Through

This is a fly-through of a LiDAR data set of The Hoover Dam, created by Airborne 1 Corporation. The data set was collected in 2004 and was used to very accurately model the dam structures and the surrounding features. LiDAR stands for Light Detection and Ranging. This new technology consists of an airborne laser (on an airplane or helicopter), an inertial measurement unit, and GPS. It allows the user to collect millions of topographic points in a very short amount of time. LiDAR has given professionals from many different fields access to low cost and higher accuracy topographic data and is often used as an alternative or complement to aerial photography.
