VertiCopter Info Video

Modeled in Blender, flown in X-Plane, available for download from http://www.verticopter.com Introducing the VertiCopter by Garrow Aircraft. Modeled in Blender 3D, flown in X-Plane 9, script and music by Daniel Klaue. To download the model for X-Plane, go to http://www.verticopter.com. A STOVL/VTOL (Short Take-Off, Vertical Landing/Vertical Take-Off and Landing) plane that is safer than the V-22 Osprey, more cost-effective than helicopters, and as fast as regular turboprops. 5 scale sizes of the VertiCopter have been modeled for the X-Plane simulator: a mini R/C version (foamie size), a regular R/C version, both electric, a drone or UAV size version, a 2-seater full-scale version, and a 7-seater executive size version. These are all available on the http://www.verticopter.com website for you to try out in the X-Plane simulator. Visit the site for details. Plans for the construction of a real (physical) plane are being developed, and it will depend on where the highest amount of interest is drawn. It is very likely to start out in the Radio Controlled aircraft and helicopter market, since it would be easiest to get this plane out there in those categories. Investors would be needed to fund an initial kit. The UAV and Drone market seems to be an ever-increasing area of interest for the government for tasks such as border patrol, aerial surveillance, intelligence, etc. The 2-seater could be deployed in the areas of TV and News broadcasting, aerial surveillance, highway patrol, etc. The 7-seater would most likely draw interest for VIP transport, Medical Evacuation, Police work, off-shore oil transport, etc. The Verticopter's tilting prop configuration has not been seen before, even though it is a simple and highly implementable configuration. Torque issues are solved by counterrotating props, and they don't need to offer cyclic control, making it extremely simple. The large control surfaces on the wings provide full control over the plane even with only the slightest of headwinds. (STOVL configuration). If more control is needed, and full-control hovering is an essential part of this plane's mission, a puffer-system can be installed, allowing full control over all axes during hover flight, despite absence of any headwind. In the simulator, the smaller planes (Mini RC, regular R/C, and Drone) are NOT equipped with jet puffers, and the larger versions (2 seater and 7-seater) ARE equipped with jet puffers. This gives an adequate idea of how these different implementations would work. A great asset of the VertiCopter is that it is able to deal with extremely windy conditions. It will align itself automatically to face into the wind (by weathervaning), and depending on the speed of the headwind, the tilt-prop mechanism can be adjusted to compensate for the head wind. A stronger head wind will require a tilt angle closer to horizontal. The head wind will also flow over the control surfaces, making it more controllable.
