Hatch: Senate likely to restore Raptor funding

OGDEN, Utah — The U.S. Senate will likely restore complete funding for a new Air Force jet which will have its maintenance depot at Hill Air Force Base, Utah’s senior senator predicted.

The F/A-22 Raptor has been called part of the nation’s next generation fighter jets, but some claim that its design is already dated.

President Bush’s budget request for the Pentagon calls for reducing future purchases of the $130 million-per-plane jets from the current planned level of 268 to 179, terminating the contract early in 2008.continue..
