Czech police may investigate British firm for Gripen scandal

rague, March 23 (CTK) - Czech law enforcement bodies have taken interest in the consultancy firm Anglo-Czech Trading and Investment, established by two Britons in 2000, as it may have played a role when the purchase of the Gripen fighters was being discussed, Czech Radio (CR) said today.

The operation of the firm was managed by its Czech representatives. One of them was Stanislav Profant, a man close to some influential Social Democrats (CSSD) at the time when the party was headed by Milos Zeman, CR said.

Profant joined the firm a few months before the crucial parliamentary vote on the fighters was taken, CR said.

Independent testimonies have suggested that Profant contacted some high-ranking politicians and Defence Ministry officials at the time when the government and the parliament were deciding about the deal.
