The chief of South Korea's weapons acquisition agency will meet senior U.S. defense officials to discuss the purchase of unmanned aerial vehicles, the Defense Ministry said yesterday.

Lee Seon-hee, director of the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA), began a week-long visit to the United States for talks on bilateral defense cooperation, the ministry said in a statement. This is the first visit to the United States by the chief of the arms procurement agency, which was inaugurated in January last year.

Seoul has sought to purchase four RQ-4 Global Hawks, high-altitude, long-endurance unmanned surveillance planes, as part of efforts to build a self-reliant defense in line with its planned takeover of wartime operational control from the United States.continue..
