The U.S. Air Force is launching a pair of reviews to determine why the Joint Air to Surface Standoff Missile (JASSM) failed a recent flight-test and whether the stealthy cruise missile could be improved.

The long-range, precision-guided missile was launched July 27 from a B-2 bomber at the Utah Test and Training Range and flew close to 200 miles and half an hour without any apparent problem, Air Force officials told The DAILY July 29. But seconds before the missile was to hit a communications van, it stopped transmitting its performance data to test engineers. The missile then missed the target.
