WASHINGTON, March 10 (Reuters) - Boeing Co. (BA.N: Quote, Profile, Research) is weighing a possible Japanese role in its multibillion-dollar drive to build a 747 jumbo jet that could zap a ballistic missile with a laser, a company official said Friday. "The Japanese are very interested in ABL," said Greg Hyslop, director of Boeing's Airborne Laser program, which aims to demonstrate a capability in 2008 to shoot down a missile moments after it lifts off a launch pad.
"We have a study going on to explore where Japanese industry might participate" in the project, he said during an update on Chicago-based Boeing's work on the fledgling U.S. anti-missile shield.continue..
