The Pentagon has begun briefing Congress on the results of the 2006 Quadrennial Defense Review in preparation for Senate hearings next month.Ryan Henry, the Pentagon’s point man on the QDR, yesterday briefed congressional staffers about the review, which will likely recommend changes in military strategy, the size of forces and what weapons DoD buys. The final version is due to Congress along with the proposed fiscal 2007 budget early next month. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld has yet to formally approve the final version of the report.
A Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC) spokesman said only staffers had attended the briefing that offered “a snapshot” of the Pentagon’s ongoing QDR work. He said the meeting was not meant to provide the final assessment, but provide information for SASC staffers who are preparing for the committee’s QDR and annual budget hearings next month.continue..
