Lockheed Selects InterSense for F-35 Lightning Pilot Training Program
BEDFORD, MA--(Marketwire - November 26, 2007) - InterSense, Inc., a market leader in precision motion technology, today announced its IS-900 motion tracking system has been selected by Lockheed Martin for integration into its F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) Pilot Training Program. As the first single-seat, single-engine, stealth strike fighter, the F-35 will rely on a pilot training program designed from the ground up to meet the specific demands of this new aircraft. InterSense's IS-900 system is part of a solution that will provide pilots with an unobstructed view of the computer-generated environment located outside of the cockpit, while projecting simulated images which are precisely synchronized with the pilot's head motion.

With ultrasonic transmitters embedded into the F-35's canopy bow frame, the customized InterSense IS-900 system will be installed into pilot training simulators located at Lockheed Martin's Simulation, Training & Support Akron, OH facility. Working in conjunction with the ultrasonic transmitters, a custom IS-900 MiniTrax Helmet Tracker will be used with the F-35 Helmet Mounted Display (HMD) system. InterSense's hybrid inertial technology enables realistic interaction with simulation exercises needed for training pilots. The full system provides weapons queuing, symbology, sensor control and enhanced vision realism.

Earlier this year, InterSense's IS-900 system was successfully integrated into the F-35 engineering simulators to test all components and procedures related to the aircraft. The success and flexibility of the InterSense system, as well as the resulting reduction in design time and costs, made it the natural choice for inclusion in the pilot training program.

"We're proud to be working with Lockheed Martin on this prestigious program. The F-35 represents cutting edge technology and our IS-900 system will meet the demands required for this new aircraft," stated T.C. Browne, CEO InterSense, Inc. "This contract, combined with our strong recent track record of program wins, continues to demonstrate that InterSense is the industry standard for motion tracking technology in aerospace simulation & training."
