Australia Wins Technology Transfer Assurances on JSF

Australia won assurances June 28 that the United States will impose no impediment to transfers of technology if it acquires the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter.
U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said technology transfer issues related to the new generation stealth fighter either had been agreed or were being worked out.
”And I know of no issue that’s a problem there,” Rumsfeld said after meetings here with Australian Defense Minister Brendan Nelson.
Nelson told reporters “we are confident that all of our requirements will be met on the JSF — the technology and data transfer.”
Australia, one of eight international partners in the JSF development program, has indicated it wants to buy 90-100 of the aircraft, at a reported cost of about $15 billion.
