Hornet Strike Fighters Involved in Mishap Over Fort Hunter-Liggett

NAS LEMOORE, Calif. (NNS) -- Two F/A-18 Hornets based at Naval Air Station (NAS) Lemoore, Calif., were involved in a mishap while on a routine air-to-air intercept training mission June 26.
One of the pilots ejected from the Hornet and was recovered in good condition. The other pilot is deceased.
The mishap occurred about 11:15 a.m. in a remote training area while the aircraft were using the Fort Hunter-Liggett military operating area. The aircraft were from Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 125, based at NAS Lemoore.
The names will be released in accordance with Department of Defense notification policy.
