US softens opposition to fighter project

The United States is prepared to compromise on a deal providing Australia, Britain and other countries with military technology related to the
Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) project.
Australia and Britain had
demanded access to secretive US stealth and radar technology for the F-35 JSF fighter to allow customer nations to tailor and upgrade the planes without US assistance.
Public complaints by Australian, British and Italian defence officials about US
recalcitrance to share such technology had apparently led to a softening of US opposition.
A report in the Financial Times quoted a senior Pentagon official saying the US is "disposed to really working out this issue".
