DENVER, Feb. 28 (UPI) -- A rocket motor designed for America's missile-defense system successfully completed a key qualifying test, it was announced Tuesday.

The ORBUS 1A motor, part of the Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) interceptor project, met all requirements during a test-firing conducted at an Air Force engineering facility in Tennessee last month, Lockheed Martin and ATK said in separate news releases.

The motor was fired in a static test in a simulated altitude environment as part of the Defense Departments Boost Vehicle-plus (BV-plus) program, which clears the way for ATK to begin production of the ORBUS 1A.continue..
