India, France sign pact for defence cooperation

NEW DELHI: India and France on Monday signed a comprehensive agreement to promote bilateral strategic cooperation in fields like defence R&D, production and procurement of weapon systems and capabilities.

The wide-ranging defence agreement, which will also bolster joint military exercises and transfer of sophisticated armament technology, comes at a time when France is eager to bag the gigantic $ 6.5-billion contract to sell 126 multi-role combat aircraft to the Indian Air Force.
