No Early End to C-17, C-130J Production Lines, Companies Say

It’s too early to talk about closing the production lines for the Boeing C-17 or Lockheed Martin C-130J, company officials said Oct. 28.

Responding to concerns that the Pentagon’s upcoming Mobility Capability Study (MCS) could lead to budget cuts that shut down the lines for both transport planes by the end of the decade, officials from both companies said the numbers the U.S. military services say they need should keep the lines open for the foreseeable future.

A draft of the MCS is floating around the Pentagon, but Air Force and company officials say they haven’t seen it yet.
