Mountain Home hosts first-ever Gunfighter Flag

MOUNTAIN HOME AIR FORCE BASE, Idaho -- Starting Sept. 14, Gunfighters may notice an increase in flying operations with a myriad of planes and visitors as part of the first-ever Gunfighter Flag 2009. 

The multinational exercise will include visitors from Nellis Air Force Base, Nev.; Schriever Air Force Base, Colo.; Phoenix Air National Guard, Ariz.; Tinker Air Force Base, Okla.; Whidbey Island Naval Air Station, Wash.; and Cold Lake, Alberta, Canada.

"This exercise will maximize coalition and U.S. Air Force large force exercise training through realistic dissimilar aircraft training scenarios and advanced air-to-air and air-to-ground tactics," said Maj. Matt Vincent, 390th Fighter Squadron assistant director of operations. "This also gives us the opportunity to bolster international relationships with a vital North American Aerospace Defense Command partner."

The exercise will run from Sept. 14 through 25.

Participants include:
F-15C Eagles from the 390th Fighter Squadron
F-15E Strike Eagles from the 389th Fighter Squadron and 391st Fighter Squadron; Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho
CF-18 Hornets from the 409th Tactical Fighter Squadron; Cold Lake, Alberta, Canada
F-16 Fighting Falcons from the 64th Aggressors Squadron; Nellis Air Force Base, Nev.
Top Aces alpha jets; Cold Lake, Alberta, Canada
EF-18 Hornets from the Tactical Electronic Attack Squadron 129; Whidbey Island Naval Air Station, Wash.
EA-6B Prowlers from the VAQ-137; Whidbey Island Naval Air Station, Wash.
E-3 Sentries from the 963rd Airborne Air Control Squadron; Tinker Air Force Base, Okla.
KC-135 Stratotankers from the 197th Air Refueling Squadron; Phoenix Air National Guard, Ariz.
