The Gripen Next Generation (NG) fighter is among three aircraft under consideration for the Brazilian Air Force.

Saab responded to a Request for Information (RFI) from Brazil in August regarding Gripen. The Brazilian Air Force has announced on its website that the ongoing procurement will concentrate on three alternatives:

  • Saab’s Gripen NG

  • Boeing’s F-18 E/F Super Hornet and

  • Dassault’s Rafale

In 2014

The website also states that the procurement is for 36 aircraft with deliveries set to commence in 2014.

Saab is prepared to cooperate with Brazilian industry, sharing expertise and transferring technologies. The bid is supported by the Swedish government.

“We are pleased to be included by the Brazilian Air Force in the ongoing selection process and are ready to submit a very attractive proposal”, says Lennart Sindahl, Executive Vice President, Saab.
