Request for proposals for 126 jets very shortly: Air Chief

Bangalore, Sept 11: India will float a "request for proposals" (RFP) for buying 126 fighter jets for Indian Air Force "very shortly," Chief of Air Staff S P Tyagi said today. "RFP is issued by the Ministry of Defence but I know that it will be out very shortly," he told reporters on the sidelines of the 54th International Congress of Aviation and Aerospace Medicine being held here.
"We are awaiting the issue of RFP," the Air Chief Marshal added.
Purchase of 126 multi-role combat aircraft will reportedly cost an estimated USD nine billion.
"We will send out RFP to various companies. There will be Russian, American, French, Swedish and British companies.
The Government has decided to send it to some other companies as well." The Air Chief Marshal said the selection of the supplier will be a "complex procedure". IAF will evaluate the product, carry out technical evaluation and technological evaluation, he said.
