Raytheon unit puts new focus on aircraft weapons systems

Jon Jones, president of Raytheon's Space and Airborne Systems unit, said the company sees growth opportunities from making radars and other systems that aren't tied to specific planes. That way, the equipment can be used on multiple types of aircraft and make it easier to connect to a common network.
"We'll find the best aircraft and bring our great mission systems for an overall integrated system," Jones said in a telephone interview.
Raytheon has made a series of high-tech radars for Boeing Co. (BA) fighters like the F-15 and the F/A-18. The new strategy suggests Raytheon may branch out to Lockheed Martin Corp. (LMT) jets as well.
