First EA-18G Growler Lands at Whidbey Island
An EA-18G Growler lands at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island for the first time. The Growler is being developed to replace the fleet\'s current carrier-based EA-6B Prowler. The next-generation electronic attack aircraft for the U.S. Navy, combines the combat-proven F/A-18 Super Hornet with state-of-the-art electronic warfare avionics. An F/A-18C Hornet takes off from CVN 74
An F/A-18C Hornet assigned to the "Argonauts" of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 147 takes off from the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74). The John C. Stennis Carrier Strike Group and Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 9 are conducting a dual-carrier exercise with the Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group and Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 7. This marks the first time the Stennis and Eisenhower strike groups have operated together in a joint exercise while deployed to 5th Fleet. Blue Angels over San Francisco Bay
The Navy flight demonstration team, the Blue Angels, conduct survey flights over San Francisco Bay in preparation for Fleet Week 2006 air shows. Blue Angels pilots conduct survey flights routinely to familiarize themselves with a city’s geography. San Francisco’s Fleet Week is a celebration of the sea services. More than 7,000 Sailors, Marines and Coast guardsmen are scheduled to participate in a parade of ships and various ship tours and conduct numerous community service projects throughout the Bay Area.
