F-22 Raptor Image Gallery

The Lockheed Martin YF-22 won the Air Force's Advanced Tactical Fighter (ATF) contest over the Northrop YF-23 in April 1991. In 1983 the Air Force had issued a request for proposals for the ATF program, which were based on a study on new fighter concepts. The F-22 program is developing the next-generation air superiority fighter for the United States Air Force to ensure it retains it's air dominance and can counter emerging worldwide threats.

The aircraft are part of the more than 120 participating in Northern Edge 2008, the largest military training exercise in Alaska. TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- A 90th Fighter Squadron F-22 takes part in Combat Archer, an assessment conducted to prepare and evaluate operational fighter squadron's readiness for combat operations. The 3rd Wing and Air Force Reserve Command's 477th Fighter Group combined for its first F-22A Raptor deployment to Tyndall Air Force Base, Fla., for Combat Archer. The successful integration of both reserve and active-duty Airmen was showcased Feb. 2- 17, when approximately eight aircraft and 132 Airmen took part in the Weapons System Evaluation Program training.
