Two AV-8B Harriers prepare for flight operations aboard the USS Nassau Two AV-8B Harriers, attached to the Air Combat Element of the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), prepare for flight operations aboard amphibious assault ship USS Nassau (LHA 4). The 24th MEU is participating in Nassau Strike Group's Composite Unit Training Exercise (COMPTUEX). COMPTUEX provides a realistic training environment to ensure the strike group is capable and ready for deployment.

Tarawa, along with embarked 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, is on a scheduled deployment to the Western Pacific in support of maritime security operations and the global war on terrorism.

An AV-8B Harrier lands on the flight deck of USS Bonhomme Richard Members of the flight deck crew aboard amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) observe as an AV-8B Harrier assigned to the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit’s (MEU) Air Combat Element lands on the flight deck. Marines and equipment from the 13th MEU returned to Bonhomme Richard, following a 3.5-month tour providing assault support, close-air support, heavy lift capabilities, as well as intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance for the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing Forward in the Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Bonhomme Richard Expeditionary Strike Group is conducting maritime operations in 5th Fleet.

Malabar is a multilateral exercise that includes naval forces from India, Australia, Japan, Singapore, and the United States. It is designed to increase interoperability among the navies and to develop common procedures for maritime security operations.
